Buffalo

The Buffalo Nickel is one of the most popular coin designs in American history. Also known as the Bison or Indian Head Nickel, the buffalo design was supposedly modeled after Black Diamond, a buffalo housed at the Central Park Zoo in New York at the time. Production of the Buffalo Nickel ran until 1938 when it was replaced by the Jefferson Nickel.
