How We Grade

All coins sold on this site are graded using Photograde and the American Numismatic Association's official grading standards. All currency sold on this site is graded using PCGS grading standards. Below are the designations we use and the coin/currency conditions they refer to.

NOTE: The images on this site are for reference only--the actual coins/notes you receive may vary unless specified otherwise.

COIN DESIGNATIONS

FILLER - These coins are considered hole fillers. They might have been damaged or cleaned and could be corroded or have other problems. Dates will be identifiable (last two digits minimum) and mint marks and major design elements will show.

AVERAGE CIRC - These coins will range in grade from Good to Almost Uncirculated. Generally, the earlier or scarce date coins will have grades of Good to Very Fine and common coins will have grades of Extremely Fine to Almost Uncirculated.

FINE - These coins will be in better condition than those listed as Average Circulated. The coin will have moderate to considerable wear, but will generally have a pleasing appearance.

VERY FINE - These coins will be less worn than those receiving a grade of Fine. Major details are clear.

EXTREMELY FINE/ABOUT UNCIRCULATED (XF/AU) - These coins will have light to moderate wear and most, if not all features will be sharp and well defined.

BU - These coins are uncirculated and show no wear or damage. They may not have full mint luster, may be toned or lightly spotted, or may be weakly struck. BU coins are taken from rolls, and the conditions will be typical for the date.

CHOICE BU (CHBU) - These coins are uncirculated and have full mint luster. Generally, these coins are not spotted or toned and are hand-selected from rolls or other sources for their beauty.

PROOF - The proof designation refers to the method of manufacture. These coins are specially made, distinguished by sharp details. Some coins may be average and may be slightly toned or have minor blemishes.

CHOICE PROOF (CHPF) - These coins will be above average proofs with superb luster.
