Franklin![]() The Franklin Half Dollar was introduced in 1948 to replace the Walking Liberty design. Minted from 1948 to 1963, the coin features a portrait of Benjamin Franklin on the obverse and the Liberty Bell on the reverse. A small eagle to the right of the bell was necessitated by law. In 1964, a bill was rushed through Congress after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, effectively replacing the Franklin Half Dollar. Large quantities of the Franklin Half Dollar were melted as silver bullion shortly after 1964, but despite this occurrance, the coin is still widely available today.
