Statehood

In 1999, the 50 State Quarters program of circulating commemorative quarters began; these have a modified Washington obverse and a different reverse for each state. With five states issued each year, the program is scheduled to run through 2008; however, pending legislation may extend the program an extra year to allow for production of quarters for the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories large enough to merit non-voting Congressional representatives.
